Se aborda la protecci\u00f3n contra el biodeterioro, la corrosi\u00f3n, la biocorrosi\u00f3n\u00a0 y la acci\u00f3n del fuego, contemplando adem\u00e1s la obtenci\u00f3n de superficies higi\u00e9nicas. Estas propiedades espec\u00edficas son conferidas a los recubrimientos a trav\u00e9s de una adecuada formulaci\u00f3n, selecci\u00f3n de material formador de pel\u00edcula y pigmentos, considerando asimismo la incorporaci\u00f3n de s\u00f3lidos micro y mesoporosos funcionalizados o nanoestructurados que pueden actuar como aditivos o cargas.
